When preparing for your move, it is important to create an organized plan to ensure a seamless move. In this guide, we go over the perfect game plan to prepare for your move and get yourself ready.

Steps To Begin Preparing For Your Move

Here are the 3 important steps to take when preparing for your move:

1. Start Decluttering

Asking yourself what you can get rid of sounds simple enough but without a doubt it is one of the most crucial steps in setting yourself up for an easy move.

Not only does getting rid of things you don’t need minimize the clutter in your home, it also will save you time during your moving process. Saving time means saving money as this will decrease the labor hours and ultimately ensure a lower rate.

2. Begin Organizing

You may wonder why you would organize before the moving process begins, but there is a good reason for this.

Organizing helps you determine how your belongings will be packed away in boxes from fragile items, heavier items, and durable items, etc. Doing this makes it easier to place items in boxes in a way that decreases the time it takes to contemplate where and how items should be packed once the packing process begins.

This also lets movers know what boxes are fragile and what is not so that they can load and move your furniture and belongings with ease while ensuring its safety.

Aside from just the beginning of your move, organizing will actually help you later on when its time to unpack and put away belongings at the end of your move as well.

3. Time To Start Packing

You knew it was coming. The fun part begins!

Packing, as strenuous as it may be, is arguably the most important step in your moving process. This is because it will minimize the amount of loose items in your moving process making your move faster, more organized, and more protected.

The basics to packing involves placing your organized like-items together inside of the right sized box (small, medium, large) and from there placing them in a specific order. The best way to pack boxes is starting with heaviest items on bottom and making your way up to lightest on top.

Make sure all fragile items are wrapped individually inside of the boxes with proper packing materials. We like to use packing paper as we find it provides the needed protection and can speed up this process.

Lastly, always remember to label your boxes with whats inside and where it should go (bedroom, living room, office, kitchen, etc.) as this will make your whole move easier.
